Frank Mid-Week 3 Review

Okay so I finished the second week a couple days ago and everything is feeling much better. Both during the workouts and walk overall level of fit"ness". However I tweaked something in my back doing pullups so now I have a pain in the ass knot in my shoulder I get to deal with for the next couple days.

The most notable improvements for me are in my pushups week 1 i did 202 pushups... week 2 227 and week 3 I did 279. My goal each time I do the chest/back workout is to look at what I did in the previous week and tryo to do 2 more pushups and 1 more unassisted pullup. My pullups arent improving the way I'd like them to but i am seeing improvement. Im not able to do more pullups in one attempt, particularly in the beginning of a workout. however Im not getting as tired so I can do more at the end of the workout. So week 1 the very first set of pullups I was able to do 7 and the last set of day I couldnt do 1 (I just did a bunch of chair assisted pullups). But now in week 3 I am still only able to do 7 pullups on the first set but 4-5 on the last set.

week 2

Alrighty....half way through week 2. Abs are starting to get a little better as far as how many I can do.

No Sausage arm for Sara. I bet I am sore tomorrow. I am trying to follow the eating chart but honestly, all I have really done is cut out the fried foods I used to eat. I havent had chips or fries since I started (things I probably at 5 times a week).

The best post workout lounge attire

I just wanted to mention that I have found I really enjoy wearing scrubs to lounge around in before and after workouts. They are extremely comfortable. I get mine at www.scrubadoo.com, which is definitely the best place to shop for scrubs.

Innitial Thoughts

So I am 5 workouts in and today is the first day that I don't feel sore every time I move anything. I think it is because I played Basketball after the workout yesterday (did legs and back in the AM and played ball at night).

Just to give you an idea the four of us are not athletic slouches going into this. 2 of the four played collegiate athletics, and the other two were intramural studs including a win in such highly competitive events such as doubles ping pong and doubles tennis (the other team forfeited in the finals). Granted i would venture to say that none of us are in as good shape as we were back in college and we sit in our offices the majority of the day now but I still play competitive ball 2 days a week and everyone else is really pretty active in sports etc. Moral of the story the workout is pretty hard since all of us have been incredibly sore and I would say none of us can keep up with the video yet.

On a side note frank is a sexy bitch. I will get my picks up soon.

Franks 1st Week

Since im creating this blog 1 week after I started I will summarize my thoguths of the first week:

Chest & Back
I didnt really do the intial testing phase day cuz I figird that seemed to be a waste of time. But on the first day the most i was able to do was 7 unassisted pullups and my first set of pushups i did 30 (tho i coulda done 40 easy 50 woulda prolly been my max). I woulda done my max but I know from doing this in the past that its best to save some strength for the second half of the hour. I ended up doing 202 pushups and 27 unassisted pullups throughout the entire workout not a bad start. Ab ripper made cry on the inside.

Plyo- a very tough workout that always kicks your ass. and if it doesnt that means your not pushing yourself enough.

Shoulders&Arm- megh its an okay workout but my dumbells are so light it ends up being a cardio workout cuz im doing set of 18-20

Yoga - its a long slow workout that isnt too too hard until all of a sudden you find your self 38 minutes into the workout and laying in a pool of sweat and you still have another 50 minutes to go. Thankfully the second hald if much easier than the first half

Legs&Back - SInce the workout is designed to deal with dumbells and rubber bands its not really meant for low reps high weights. So for me this ends up being similar to the plyometrics workout. Which is very aerobic and really got my heart rate up... Plus coming after yoga my hammys were so sore this my lower body is still sore from this... and my abs are so sore from all the ab ripper and yoga ive done this week I surprised myself by actually completing it all the way through

Kenpo - megh.. its mildly entertaining, it makes me feel like billy blanks and doing a tae bo workout. I've done a couple years of karate training so i do the spirit of what tony is saying but I try to use the foundations of what I learned while I took karate.

Stretch - yeah im electing to not participate in this...

week 2
---------------------
Chest and Back-
Well im not in tremendous pain all over anymore... And I can already start to feel my body is adjusting to this lifestyle. Although i did eventuall get tired i was able to go through a lot more of the workout with good tempo. Ab ripper is still kicking my butt by i can feel improvements there too.

...phew god that was a long ass post.

My Before Pics:

Me:
I am 30 years old, 6'4" and a starting weight of 210 pounds.

This will be my second go around of the p90x program. I started it about 10-11 months ago and made it just shy of the 60 day mark. I had really good results and when i quit had the most defined abs Id prolly ever had in my life... cept for maybe when i was 21... Why did I quit last time? Im pretty sure it was because I went on a 4 day cruise to mexico and just never recovered. Hopefully doing it as a group and with this blog I'll have some better results.

My goals:
I dont really have any solid end game goals.. I shuold prolly come up with some considering so much of this program talks about setting goals and striving for them.. So i guess I'll say I wanna drop my weight to around 195, 20 unassisted pullups, and 100 pushups.

My setup:

At this point all i have for equipment is:
-------------------------------------------
a pull up bar mounted to my closet door frame
1 set of 20 lbs dumbells
1 set of 10 lbs dumbells
a folding stool

P90x and The Cougar Slayers

Welcome to the blogs of The Cougar Slayers.
For the next 90+ days we will be recording our progress and providing a form of accountability to each of us as we go through the rigors of P90x workout program created by Tony Horton and Beachbody.com.

-Who is team Cougar Slayers?
It consists of, myself (Frank), Brett, Sara, and Burns.

-Why are we posting it on the internet and not just telling each other about our results?.
I live in south florida, brett and sara live in minnesota and burns... i dont know where he live.. i think in or around the DC area. So blogger.com has provided us an excellent place to share our thoughts, experiences, hopes and dreams. It also give us a place to post some before and after pics so that we can make fun of each other. Except for sara because shes a girl and my momma always said to never make fun of a girls body.

I got ancy and ended up starting the workouts on 1/6/2010 Brett and Sara are about week behind me... and Burns well he hasnt actually started yet.. but word on the street is he has actually acquired the DVDs... so hes supposed to start this weekend i think.
